Barcelona Planning To Hand New Contract To Ronald Koeman

Ronald Koeman’s current deal with Barcelona is set to expire on June 30, 2022.

His future will depend on three main factors. First and foremost, Koeman’s continuity hinges on the trophies he will be able to win with Barcelona this season.

To stay at Barcelona for another season, the Dutchman should lead them to LaLiga Santander success, as a Copa del Rey triumph is not enough to guarantee anything, while winning the Champions League is not a task Koeman will be expected to fulfil.

Meanwhile, his future will also depend on how Koeman will manage the academy players following a transfer window in which Barcelona were not particularly active due to their well-documented financial struggles. In three official games so far this season, Koeman has already handed first-team debuts to three youngsters: Yusuf Demir, Gavi and Nico Gonzalez.

Last but not least, Barcelona directors expect to see a team mirroring the club’s attacking style of play of the pitch, despite the squad lacking depth and quality compared to last season.

What is important for Barcelona and Koeman is that, by extending his deal, the Dutchman will have more power in the dressing room and he will not just be a coach with an expiration date. And this is one of the reasons why Barcelona are willing to offer him a new deal under certain conditions.
