Isreal elects new president

Israel elected Isaac Herzog, a labour leader who is now set to become the 11th President of Israel after winning 87 votes of Knesset’s 120 and set to make history as the first second-generation leader.

Isaac Herzog will take over from his predecessor Reuven Rivlin as the latter’s term is set to end on July 9.

With the Wednesday victory, Herzog will also be the first Israeli president who is a son of a former president of the country.

His father, Chaim Herzog was Israel’s sixth president from 1983 to 1993.
