NET Honours 2021: Richard Mofe-Damijo, Alexx Ekubo, Others Nominated for Most Popular Actor Nigerian Entertainment

Richard Mofe-Damijo, Alexx Ekubo, Efa Iwara, Timini Egbuson and Swanky JKA, five of Nigeria’s finest on-screen performers, are up against each other for Most Popular Actor at the NET Honours People’s Choice Awards, one of the world’s most prestigious audience data-based awards.

NET Honours is an annual recognition of top performers in the entertainment industry and public sector based on audience data from ID Africa’s media channels.

The award recognises achievers in the entertainment industry through a thorough analysis of audience search results, consumer interest, social media interactions and trends.

Richard Mofe-Damijo, nominated for the second year in a row, has been in the spotlight for much of 2021.

He starred in Namaste Wahala, a romantic comedy film that marked the first blockbuster collaboration between Bollywood and Hollywood.

He also starred in the movie, Fine Wine, which hit box office figures of N26 million.

Alexx Ekubo, who came into fame after emerging first runner-up at the 2010 edition of Mr Nigeria, worked pretty hard during the year in review.

He appeared in the comedy film Fate Of Alakada, which grossed N113 million in cinemas.

He also starred in Funke Akindele’s Omo Ghetto: The Saga, the highest-grossing film in Nollywood history with box office figures of N636 million.

Efa Iwara, making his NET Honours debut this year, was in high demand between June 2020 and April 2021.

He starred in Kayode Kasum’s This Lady Called Life, and he appeared in Femi Ogunsanwo’s romantic comedy film Finding Hubby.

He also played a lead role in the crime drama movie, Rattlesnake:

The Ahanna Story, which grossed N70 million at the box office.

Timini Egbuson has been racking up the numbers for the past 12 months. The 34-year-old, who won the 2020 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Award (AMVCA) for Best Actor in a Drama, starred in the comedy film Ponzi, which grossed N32 million in cinemas.

His latest film, Breaded Life, has grossed N83 million in cinemas so far.

Swanky JKA (real name Jideofor Kenechukwu Achufusi) gained popularity for his strong performance in the movie Living In Bondage: Breaking Free.

The 29-year-old, who won the Trailblazer Award at the 2020 edition of the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Award (AMVCA), starred in the Kayode Kasum-directed romance movie Kambili, which grossed N20 million at the box office.

NET Honours is based on engagement from over 8 million internet users reached across websites, social media and email newsletter channels of Netng, Neusroom, 234Star and Orin between June 2020 and May 2021.

The event celebrates musicians, actors, comedians, reality TV stars and public personalities who are subjects of Nigeria’s most exciting conversations in the year under review.
